About Mrs. Winslow
Mrs. Winslow has been playing instruments since age 7. She began singing as a very young child and decided to play her dad's trumpet in her elementary school band in California. She grew up in a very musical home and remembers fondly the times she and her siblings playing their instruments together, singing around the piano with her family, and performing in community and chuch events. She moved to Utah in high school. She attended Woods Cross High School and was in the Jazz Band, Symphonic Band, and other ensembles under the direction of Brent Apolonie. She later went to SUU and studied trumpet (under the instruction of DJ Barraclough) and music education. During her time there, she auditioned for and made the 2002 Olympic Band which performed at the opening and closing ceremonies, awards ceremonies, and Olympic events during the SLC 2002 Olympic Games.
Mrs. Winslow has been teaching band for 10 years. She has taught choir, group piano, along with private trumpet and French horn lessons. Mrs. Winslow was the director of the Southern Utah Performing Arts Festival and a member of the directing committee for 5 years. She has played in pit orchestras at Tuacahn or the Utah Shakespeare Festival for 12 years. Mrs. Winslow is half way through her Masters of Arts in Arts Administration through SUU.
Mrs. Winslow is married to Michael Winslow, current band director at Desert Hills High School. She is a proud mother of three fantastic kids that are also young musicians. She loves music, the outdoors, running, cooking, and learning new skills.
